Homework #10

*this post is focused on the typography of the book cover

What: Publication (book cover)

Function: It is a cover of a picture book which includes the title, author, and illustration.

Where: Book shelf

QualityThe type is successful in creating a vintage, outdated look. The faded effect also makes it look like it was hand-printed (ex. through woodcuts). However, as the type is ornate and in all-caps, it can be a little hard for the viewer to read all the words quickly and clearly.

Style: Victorian- the decorative and hand-printed look of the type make it Victorian. It looks like a font that would have been in one of the type specimens during the Victorian Era.

What attracted me: The font used for the title and the author's name drew me because it looked familiar, as it looks like some fonts that were used in Victorian designs. The all-caps, large, ornate letters really catch the viewer's eyes.
