Homework #8
What: Publication (book cover)
Function: It is a cover of a book with the title and author(s) of the book.
Where: Book shelf
Quality: The close up image of the child with a shape across the lips communicate the message of the title very well. Red was also a good choice to express "forbidden." Because there is lots of negative space below, the viewer is automatically drawn to the picture and the title.
Style: Late Modern- I thought of Late Modern because of the use of fused metaphor. Here, the picture of the lower half of the face is combined with a red strip to communicate the message of "Forbidden Language." It also uses large scale and a singular image, which are common visual elements found in Late Modern designs.
What attracted me: I was attracted at how powerful the composition is even with minimal variety of colors and fonts. Because the image takes up most of the space, I was drawn to it and to the title.
